Animals And Their Ecology

Amphibians

Amphibians are ectothermic in other words cold-blooded animals, with a three chamber heart. They have smooth, and slimy body covering, and they have four legs (in most cases) for locomotion. They exhibit Gas exchange through their skin. Fertilization in amphibians is external in water, and their eggs are gelatinous.  Once they give birth to their offspring they on their own. They have weird development

such as metamorphosis.

Bony Fish

Bony fish are ectothermic (cold-blooded) animals with a two chamber heart. Their bodies are covered in slim, and bony scales. Their locomotion is by way of fins. Gas exchange in bony fish is done through their gills. Bony fish fertilization is most external in water, and their eggs are jellylike.  They care for their offspring very little to none once they are born.  Two weird developments if bony fish are swim bladders, as well as the use of a lateral line system.

Reptiles

Reptiles are ectothermic (cold-blooded) animals with a three chamber heart. Their body covering is dry, and leathery scales.  Reptile’s way of locomotion is via their four legs for most. Their gas exchange is through their lungs.  Fertilization for reptiles is internal on land, and theirs eggs are amniotic.  Reptiles care very little or not at all once they are born. One weird development of reptiles is that they have Keratin in their scales.

Birds

Birds are endothermic (warm blooded) animals with a four chamber heart. Birds have a dry, feathers body covering. Bird’s way of locomotion is by their wings. Their gas exchange is very efficient through their lungs. Bird’s fertilization is internal on land, and their eggs are amniotic. Birds care of offspring quite well in the nest providing food for them. One weird developments of birds is that they have no teeth and one ovary.

Mammals

Mammals are endothermic (warm blooded) animals with a four chamber heart. Mammals have a covering of hair and fur. Mammal’s way of locomotion is mostly four upright legs. Their gas exchange is through their lungs.  Mammal’s fertilization is internal on land, and they have live births. Their care of offspring is very efficient. Mammal’s feed their young milk and are very protective. One weird development of mammals are monotremes (lay eggs). Monotremes are mammals that lay eggs and produce milk.
